WD: Unexpected Revision Marks in Converted WordPerfect FileLast reviewed: February 3, 1998Article ID: Q169868 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you open a WordPerfect 5.x or 6.x document in any of the versions of Microsoft Word listed at the beginning of this article, Word applies underline formatting to text which was formatted as redlined in WordPerfect, and vertical bars appear in the margin area.
CAUSEBy design, text formatted as redline in WordPerfect documents is converted to inserted text revision marking in Word. When the default settings are used for revision marking in Word, inserted text is marked with a single underline and a color. A vertical bar appears in the margin to indicate that a revision has been made.
WORKAROUNDSince these marks are revision marks, to remove the underlining and vertical marks, follow these steps:
Word 6.x, 7.x
Word 97 and Word 98 Macintosh Edition
MORE INFORMATIONThe Mark Revisions While Editing feature in Word 6.x and 7.x and the Track Changes While Editing feature in Word 97 and Word 98 Macintosh Edition are equivalent to the redlining feature in WordPerfect. The main difference is how each program displays the formatting on your screen. WordPerfect uses a font format called Redline to designate text that has been added or changed from the original version of a document. This format can be applied manually or automatically using a feature called "Compare Document." WordPerfect also has a Strikeout format that you can use to designate deleted text. In any case, when you have completed all modifications, the redline formatting will be removed but the text will be formatted normally, and the strikeout text will be deleted.
