The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you open a Microsoft Word for Windows 95, Japanese version 7.0 document into Microsoft Word 97 for Windows, English (United States) version, the document may be empty and the file size may be zero kilobytes.
CAUSEThis problem occurs with documents created with the Japanese version of Word 95 on the Japanese version of Windows 95, and the document properties contain certain FE (Far East) Japanese characters. The converter for Word 97 does not recognize these characters and will not convert the document.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Word 97 for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Word 97 for Windows. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Word 97, Service Release 1, for Windows.
