The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word 97 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to check for an AutoUpdate from Word, you may receive the following error message:

AutoUpdate could not download a newer version. Word could not connect to
the Internet, or the Internet connection returned an error. To retry the
update, click AutoUpdate on the Tools menu.

NOTE: To check for an AutoUpdate from Word, you must have an HTML document open so the AutoUpdate command is available on the Tools menu.

WORKAROUND

To check for and install the Word 97 Web Authoring Tools Update, connect to the following Internet location:

NOTE: Because the Microsoft Web site is constantly updated, the site address may change without notice. If this occurs, link to the Microsoft home page at the following address:

   http://www.microsoft.com/
