WD: Internet Assistant for Word - Run Time Error 438

SYMPTOMS

When you create a new document based on Html.dot the following run-time error may occur: 

   Run time error 438 "Object doesn't support this property."
If you click the Edit or Debug button, the Visual Basic for Applications editor will appear and you insertion point is placed on the following line of code: 

   WordBasic.call HTMLNew

CAUSE

You are using the Html.dot that shipped with Internet Assistant for use with Microsoft Word 6.x or 7.0 for Windows.

RESOLUTION

You need to install the updated Html.dot file included with Web Page Authoring features.

To install the Web Page Authoring (HTML) features, follow these steps:

  1. Run Word Setup and choose to Add/Remove components.

  2. In the Maintenance dialog box, click to select the Web Page Authoring (HTML) check box in the Options list.

  3. Click Continue.

To install the HTML converter, follow these steps:

  1. Run Word Setup and click Add/Remove components.

  2. In the Maintenance dialog box, click to select Converters and Filters in the Options list, and then click Change Option.

  3. In the Option list, click to select Text Converters, and then click Change Option.

  4. In the Options list, click to select HTML Converter.

  5. Click OK twice, and then click Continue.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Word 97 has build-in Web publishing features that replace the functionality of the Internet Assistant. Internet Assistant is not needed with Microsoft Word 97.
