  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

SUMMARY

The English Language Dictionary supplied with Word contains both the United States (U.S.) English and British (U.K.) English dictionaries. In other words, you can check both English (U.S.) and English (U.K.) spelling using the same dictionary.

MORE INFORMATION

To check the United States or British English spelling of a word, you must format that word for the appropriate language. To apply language formatting, follow these steps:

  1. Select the text that you want to have applied a specific language format.

  2. On the Tools menu, point to Language, and then click Set Language.

  3. Select one of the following depending on your operating system (Windows or Macintosh):

Word for Windows Word for the Macintosh
      ---------------- ----------------------

      English (United States) English (U.S.)
      English (British) English (U.K.)

For example, if your document contains the word "colour," Word flags it as misspelled if it is formatted as English (United States) in Word for Windows or English (U.S.) in Word for Macintosh, but Word considers it to be spelled correctly if it is formatted as English (British) in Word for Windows or English (U.K.) in Word for Macintosh.
