This article describes how to add the Insert Address button to an existing toolbar.

You can insert addresses into a Word document from your personal address book or from your electronic address book by clicking the Insert Address button.

Adding the Insert Address Button

To add the Insert Address button, follow the steps appropriate for your version of Word.

Word 97 for Windows or Word 98 Macintosh Edition:

  1. Open an existing document or create a new one.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Customize.

  3. Click Toolbars tab, and then click to select the Menu Bar check box.

    NOTE: This option is on by default in Word for Windows.

  4. Click to select the Commands tab.

  5. Under Categories, click to select Insert.

  6. Under Commands, click and drag Address Book to the desired toolbar location.

  7. Click Close to close the Customize dialog box.

Word for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a:

  1. Open an existing document or create a new one.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Customize.

  3. On the Toolbars tab, under Categories, click to select Insert.

  4. Under Buttons, click and drag Address Book to the desired toolbar location.

Using the Insert Address Button

To use the Insert Address button, follow these steps:

  1. Click where you want to insert the address in your document.

  2. Click the Insert Address button.

  3. In the "Show names from the" box, click to select the address book you want to use.

  4. In the "Type name or select from list" box, type a name or click to select a name from the list of names, and then click OK.

NOTE: You can click the arrow next to the Insert Address button to display names you have used most recently, and any additions or changes you make in your addresses while you're working in Word will be reflected in your address book through your other applications.
