The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Word, when you double-click a Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition linked object while Excel is open in the background, nothing happens.
CAUSEThere is a problem with the OLE timing when you double-click to activate Excel.
WORKAROUNDUse one of the following methods to work around this problem.
Method 1: Close Microsoft Excel
Method 2: Vary the Speed of the Double-ClickIf you slow down your regular double-click speed, Excel may finally become active. NOTE: This seems to be more of a problem with slower computers, such as a PowerMac 8100/100 with 40 megabytes (MB) of RAM.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
