WD98: Text Subscription From Claris Works Loses Formatting

Last reviewed: February 3, 1998

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

A text subscription in a Word 98 document based on a published edition from Claris Works 4.0, will take on the default character formatting for the Word document at the time of subscription. The subscribed text can then be selected and a new style or character formatting may be applied to it. If changes are made to the published edition, the character formatting applied in Word will usually continue to be applied the next time the subscription is updated. However, if the character formatting for the subscription is changed prior to the update, no reliable prediction can be made about the character formatting in the subscription after an update.

NOTE: Subscriptions from editions published by other applications such as Word and Excel do maintain their character formatting.

WORKAROUND

Select and format the text after you have subscribed to the published edition from Claris Works 4.0.

-or-

Change the default character format in the Word document to the desired format prior to subscribing to the published edition.

STATUS

This problem occurs when you use Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition and Claris Works 4.0.
