The following sample WordBasic macro copies the information from the Data key for Word in the system registry, to a *.reg file, which it saves on the Desktop.

   Sub MAIN
   Open Environ$("windir") + "\Desktop\OldWordSettings.REG" For Output As
   #1
REM next two lines are really one statement.
   Print #1,
   GetPrivateProfileString$("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Word\7.0\
   Data", "Settings", "")
   Close #1
   End Sub

NOTE: Microsoft Windows NT, version 3.51 with Service Pack 3 or later contains user profiles. Therefore, if you are running Windows NT, the first line of the macro would instead be as follows:

   Open Environ$("windir") + "\profiles\AllUsers\Desktop\
   OldWordSettings.REG" For Output As #1
