SUMMARYIf a solid line appears across the bottom of the page of a document in Print Preview in Word (Page Preview in Word versions 3.x) as well as on the printout, but does not appear on the edit screen (Normal View), it may be a footnote continuation separator. It could be appearing on that page because the last footnote on the previous page has extra blank lines following it. These extra blank lines do not fit in the footnote section of the previous page, so they are inserted on the bottom of the next page with a continuation separator (the unwanted solid line) above them. To remove this line, delete all extra blank lines following the last footnote on the previous page. You can also edit the continuation separator to change its appearance:
