SUMMARY
To shade the background of a paragraph in Microsoft Word for the Macintosh,
use the appropriate procedure for your version of Word.
Word Version 6.0
- Select the paragraphs to be shaded.
- From the Format menu, choose Borders And Shading.
- Select the Shading tab.
- From the Fill dialog, select the Custom option, and the choose the
desired shading amount. Choose OK.
Word Versions 5.0 and 5.1
- Select the paragraphs to be shaded.
- From the Format menu, choose Border.
- Under "Shading:" in the lower-right corner of the dialog box,
choose the desired shading amount from the popup menu.
Word Versions 3.x and 4.0
To shade the background of a paragraph when printing to a PostScript
printer in Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 3.0 and 4.0, do the
following:
- Type the following text just before the paragraph you want to shade:
.para.
gsave wp$box .98 setgray fill grestore
NOTE: .para. must be lowercase. The ".98" represents the percentage of
gray you want, where 0 (zero) is all black and 1 is all white.
- Select the above text, hold down the SHIFT key, and choose All Styles
from the Format menu.
- Select the PostScript style and choose the OK button.
To change the amount of shading extending above and below the text in the
paragraph, alter the Before and After spacing in the Format Paragraph
dialog box.
