Word: Fractional Widths Affects Screen Display in 4.0 and 5.xLast reviewed: July 30, 1997Article ID: Q36439 |
The information in this article applies to:
SUMMARYIn Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 4.0 and later, the Fractional Widths option appears in the Page Setup dialog box instead of in the Print dialog box as it did in earlier versions of Word. The Fractional Widths option makes the text on the screen more difficult to read because Word attempts to simulate the character positioning used for the LaserWriter, which exceeds the display capabilities of the Macintosh screen display. The Fractional Widths option affects only LaserWriter fonts (for example, Times and Helvetica). Fractional Widths should not affect TrueType fonts that are not printer fonts. Fonts that should be unaffected are New York, Geneva, and Monaco. Note: In Word versions 5.0 and later, Fractional Widths is on by default if a LaserWriter driver is selected in the Chooser at the time of installation.
