  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0

SUMMARY

The following are the memory requirements to run the spelling checker in Microsoft Word for the Macintosh.

MORE INFORMATION

Word Version 6.0

In Word 6.0 the Spelling checker will work correctly if the Current or Preferred memory is set to at least 1700K.

NOTE: The minimum memory required for Word 6.0 is 1700K and the recommended is 3000K

Word Versions 5.0 and 5.1

In order for Word 5.x to run the spelling checker, 1024K of memory should be available. (To check this setting, select the Word icon in the Finder and choose Get Info from the Finder's File menu.)

If not enough memory is available to run the Spelling command in Word versions 5.0 and 5.1, the message:

Not Enough Memory To Complete The Operation

is displayed.

Word Version 4.0

If the Spelling dialog box automatically closes at any point other than after an "End of document reached" alert or after you click the Cancel button, you are probably in a low-memory situation. Try saving the file and restarting the program.

If you are running under MultiFinder, you may want to allocate more memory to the application. This type of situation usually occurs only after extensive editing on a large document with less than the minimum amount of memory allocated for the program, or on a minimum configuration Macintosh 512K.
