Determining Which Mail Version to Use with Word 4.0Last reviewed: July 30, 1997Article ID: Q45835 |
The information in this article applies to:
SUMMARYWord version 4.0 supports Microsoft Mail versions 1.36, 1.37, and 2.0. You can also have the workstation software for Mail versions 1.3x and version 2.0 installed on the same Macintosh. If a Macintosh has both versions of Mail installed, the Open Mail and Send Mail commands in Word access the version of Mail that was installed first. The workstation software for Mail 1.3x is named "MS Mail" and normally loads first. The workstation software for Mail 2.0 is named "MS Mail 2.0". To force Mail Version 2.0 to load first, rename "MS Mail" of Mail 1.3x to "MSMail". After this change, Word's Open Mail and Send Mail commands access Mail version 2.0. Users must be using the same version of Mail to send and receive Word files with Send Mail and Open Mail. On the Macintosh, memory-resident software such as Microsoft Mail loads alphabetically. If you View the System Folder by Name, you can tell which version of the workstation software loads first.
