When creating a new document based on an existing template, only the templates located in the WINWORD directory or the directory listed for the DOT-PATH setting in the WIN.INI file will be listed as options. By default, Word for Windows places all template files in the Word for Windows program directory (that is, C:\WINWORD). To load and save templates from a directory other than the program directory, the DOT-PATH setting in the WIN.INI file needs to be indicated as in the following example:
[Microsoft Word] DOT-PATH=C:\TEMPLATESAdd or change the DOT-PATH line in the WIN.INI file to use templates located in other directories. Note: The exception to the above rule is when a NORMAL.DOT file exists in the WINWORD program directory and NOT in the directory indicated by the DOT-PATH. In this case, the NORMAL.DOT file will be used from the WINWORD program directory and Word for Windows will not create a NORMAL.DOT file in the directory specified by the DOT-PATH setting.
