The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.1a, 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c, 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

When you delete the text in the header/footer section of Word for Windows, the paragraph mark remains so that the area still displays under Page View.

Word for Windows was designed so that the paragraph mark remains and marks where the text was in the header/footer section; otherwise background repagination would remove the header if you had an empty header.

One method to remove the blank space of the header or footer isto go to Page layout view, then turn on Text Boundaries under Tool, Options, View Catagory. Click OK to return to the document. Perform this step again and the header or footer space will disappear.
