Footnotes Not Available in Header/Footer in Word for Windows

It is not possible to place a footnote reference mark within either the header or footer portion of a Microsoft Word for Windows document.

The header and footers are handled as separate entities from the body of the document and are not currently designed to allow the inclusion of footnote references.
