SUMMARYIn Microsoft Word for Windows, the Bullets And Numbering command on the Format menu (Utilities Renumber in Word 1.x and earlier) will automatically number paragraphs that begin with abbreviations such as "P.O." or "U.P.S." and the abbreviation will be deleted.
CAUSEIf your document contains paragraphs or single lines beginning with abbreviations such as "P.O." or "U.P.S.", the Renumber command will automatically number that paragraph or line, and the abbreviation will be deleted.
WORKAROUNDUse the outline view (on the View menu, click Outline), to show only the heading levels you want automatically renumbered; or, manually insert the {autonum} fields in the paragraphs you want automatically numbered.
STATUSThis problem does not occur in Microsoft Word 97 for Windows.
