If you insert a version 3.0 or 4.0 Microsoft Excel for Windows chart as an object linking and embedding (OLE) object in a version 2.0 or 2.0a Microsoft Word for Windows document, the chart may not display in color.

To display color in embedded charts, do the following:

  1. In Word for Windows, double-click the worksheet.

  2. When Excel appears, double-click the embedded chart. This activates Excel's chart window and menu options.

  3. Select the item on the chart that you want to appear in color.

  4. From the Format menu, choose Patterns.

  5. Under Area, select the Custom option button.

  6. Quit Excel.

  7. When Word prompts you to update the file, choose the Yes button.
