SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word for Windows, when using the German Language Format, you cannot sort files by date unless the months are entered in English. German months are not recognized by the sorting utility.

Steps to Reproduce Problem in Word version 2.x

  1. Choose Language from the Format Menu and select German from the language box.

  2. Type:

           "Mai 90"
           "Mai 80" (without quotation marks)

  3. From the Tools menu, choose Sorting. Set Sorting Order to Ascending. Set Key Type to Date. Set Field Number to 1. Choose the OK button.

Nothing will happen. Change "Mai" to "May" and repeat step 3. The German Language format will sort by English months but not German Months.

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
