Word: Can't Print to Personal LaserWriter NTRLast reviewed: July 30, 1997Article ID: Q87468 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSIn versions 4.0 and 5.0 of Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, problems may occur when printing to the Personal LaserWriter NTR. When sending a print job to the NTR, it may act as if it is printing, but it never completes the job.
CAUSEThis may be caused by using TrueType fonts (such as New York, Chicago, Geneva, and Monaco) in a document with Fractional Widths (in Page Setup) and Background Printing (in Chooser under the Apple menu) turned on.
WORKAROUNDTurning off Fractional Widths or changing the font to a PostScript font resolves the problem. Also, if using the TrueType font is necessary, turning off Background Printing and resetting the printer (by turning it off, then on again) may allow the job to print.
MORE INFORMATIONPostScript Level II printers can have problems printing TrueType fonts because of the way they manage memory. Unlike Apple's IIf and IIg printers, the NTR does not generate a PostScript error message when it has run out of memory. The following is a list of the PostScript fonts resident in the NTR printer:

Despite it being a "Personal" printer, it is networkable via AppleTalk/LocalTalk.
