French-Canadian and Swedish WinWord: REG.DAT Setup Incorrect

Last reviewed: July 30, 1997
Article ID: Q87828
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows French-Canadian localized version, version 2.0 (equivalent to the United States version 2.0a)
  • Microsoft Word for Windows Swedish localized version, version 2.0 (equivalent to the United States version 2.0a)
  • Microsoft Windows operating system versions 3.0 and 3.1

SUMMARY

When you install version 2.0 of the French-Canadian or Swedish localized version of Microsoft Word for Windows, Setup transfers incorrect information to the Microsoft Windows REG.DAT file. In the Action Open and Action Print sections of the REG.DAT file, the DDE messages for the File Open and File Print commands are in English instead of French or Swedish. For example, Word uses the syntax "FileOpen" instead of "FichierOuvrir" (French) or "ArkivOppna" (Swedish). Similarly, Word uses the syntax "FilePrint" instead of "FichierImprimer" (French) or "ArkivSkrivUt" (Swedish). Word for Windows generates a WordBasic error message in each case.

MORE INFORMATION

As a result, when you double-click a Word for Windows document in File Manager, the document does not open in Word for Windows. Similarly, drag-and-drop printing also fails.
