Shading Appears Coarse When Using QuickDraw PrinterLast reviewed: July 30, 1997Article ID: Q96678 |
The information in this article applies to:
SUMMARYWhen you print from Word for the Macintosh to certain QuickDraw printers (such as the StyleWriter or the LaserWriter LS), shading may not print at the same resolution as the rest of the print job. Instead, the shading may appear as a coarse dot pattern at 72 dots- per-inch. If the shading overlaps text, that text may be largely unreadable. Note: This problem does not occur on the StyleWriter II printer. To print shading from the StyleWriter II, select Grayscale from the Image list in the Print dialog box.
MORE INFORMATIONYou may obtain better results printing shading on a StyleWriter if you use version 7.2.2 of the Apple StyleWriter printer driver. Select the Faster setting instead of the Best setting (Best causes the dots to be too dark, which emphasizes the coarseness). You may obtain even better results printing shading on a StyleWriter if you use the BetterWriter StyleWriter driver from GDT Softworks, Inc. The GDT driver takes full advantage of the 360 dpi capability of the StyleWriter. For best results when using this printer driver, select the Best setting and the Darker option button. BetterWriter is a collection of printer drivers that can boost the quality and/or speed of Macintosh printers. The package includes drivers for the ImageWriter I, ImageWriter II, DeskWriter, StyleWriter, and ImageWriter LQ. At this time, BetterWriter does not include a driver for the LaserWriter LS.
