Incorrect Output from StyleWriter and Personal LaserWriter LS

SUMMARY

Sometimes Word for the Macintosh may print the second or third and succeeding lines of a paragraph in an approximately 1-inch-wide column down the left side of the page. This text may overlap paragraphs below it. This happens if all the following are true:

1. You are using Word version 4.0 for the Macintosh.

2. You are running with System 6.0.7. or later.

3. Your document is formatted with TrueType fonts.

4. You are printing on a StyleWriter or Personal LaserWriter LS.

5. Your document is formatted for a font size for which no bitmap font is available.

6. 32-bit addressing is turned on.

7. Background Printing is turned off.

Workarounds

1. Turn on Background Printing.

2. Turn off 32-bit addressing.

   -or-

3. Upgrade to a version of Word later than 5.0.

   -or-

4. Do not use TrueType fonts. If you use this workaround, you must use Adobe Type Manager (ATM) to achieve the same high-quality output you obtain using TrueType fonts.

This problem occurs because the "~MS Word TrueType_ Printer Init" does not load if 32-bit addressing is turned on. The same problem occurs if you remove the init from your System 6 or 7 System Folder, regardless of whether 32-bit addressing is turned on or off.
