SUMMARY

This article describes how to access the Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) using the World Wide Web.

MORE INFORMATION

The Microsoft Knowledge Base is a primary Microsoft product information source for Microsoft support engineers; it is also available to Microsoft customers. This comprehensive database includes more than 60,000 detailed articles containing technical information about Microsoft products, fix lists, documentation errors, and answers to commonly asked technical support questions. These articles are also available through MSN (the Microsoft Network online service), the Microsoft TechNet CD-ROM, and the Microsoft Developer Network CD-ROM.

Connecting to the Microsoft World Wide Web site requires a "live" session to the Internet through an Internet service provider.

Accessing the Microsoft World Wide Web Site

Before you can access the Knowledge Base on the World Wide Web you must log on to your Internet account and start a World Wide Web browser. Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer, are just two of the many browsers available.

Accessing a Product Area

To obtain any of these articles from Microsoft Technical Support on the Web, follow these steps:

  1. Connect to the Microsoft Support site at the following address:

          http://support.microsoft.com/support/default.asp

NOTE: If you've never visited this site before, you will be required to register.

  2. In the My Question Is About box, select All Products. To access KB articles in a specific product area, select the product name.

  3. In the My Question Is box, type the question you have, or keywords you want to search for

  4. Under Search Options, click Keyword or Boolean search.

If you are unable to see the Search Options, click More Search Options to display them.

  5. Click Find (located next to the My Question Is box).

This search will return from one to several article titles.

  6. Click the title of the article to view it.

Reporting a Problem

Microsoft cannot provide user assistance on how to use Web browsers to reach our servers. Please consult your browser software documentation or vendor as needed. We welcome suggestions for content, reports of apparent problems on the server end, and general comments. Send comments and suggestions to the following e-mail addresses:

   FTP: ftp@microsoft.com

   Gopher: gopher@microsoft.com

   World Wide Web: www@microsoft.com

Although we read all e-mail messages, because of the high volume of messages we receive, it is not possible to respond to each individual. These e-mail addresses are not for product support, and they should not be used as such. For information on product support see Msnbro.txt in the root of ftp.microsoft.com.
