MORE INFORMATION

To convert data between these formats and Word, use the appropriate method below.

Converting ClarisWorks Word Processing Documents to Word

  1. On the File menu in ClarisWorks 3.x or 4.0, click Save As, and then select one of the following format options:

        - Microsoft Word
        - Microsoft WinWord
        - Microsoft Word 3.0
        - Microsoft Word 4.0
        - Microsoft Word PC
        - RTF

For best results, select the option that most closely matches your version of Microsoft Word. "Microsoft Word," "Microsoft Word 3.0," and "Microsoft Word 4.0," above represent Word 5.x, 4.x, and 3.x for the Macintosh, respectively. Word 6.0 for the Macintosh and other versions of Word can open any of the file formats referenced above.

  2. Click Save to convert the file.

  3. On the File menu, click Close.

  4. Open Word and on the File menu, click Open and open the converted document.

Converting Word Documents to ClarisWorks

  1. According to Claris Technical Support, ClarisWorks may not be able to successfully recognize and open Word 6.x for Windows, Macintosh, or Windows NT, Word 7.0 for Windows 95, or Word 97 documents. Therefore, to open a document created in one of these versions of Word, first save the document in Word using one of following compatible file formats:

        - Word for Windows 1.x (Word 6.x only)
        - Word for Windows 2.x
        - Word for Macintosh 4.0
        - Word for Macintosh 5.0
        - Word for Macintosh 5.1
        - Word for MS-DOS 3.x-5.x
        - Rich Text Format

  2. On the File menu, click Open.

  3. Select the document type from the Document Type pop-up menu for the format in which you saved the Word document. Select the corresponding ClarisWorks 3.x file type from the following list:

        - Microsoft Word
        - Microsoft WinWord
        - Microsoft Word 3.0
        - Microsoft Word 4.0
        - Microsoft Word 5.0
        - Microsoft Word PC
        - Microsoft Word 1.1
        - RTF
        - RTF (Rich Text Format)

NOTE: Some of these options are redundant.

        - ASCII
        - DBF
        - Excel 3.0
        - Excel 4.0

  2. Click Save to convert the file and then open the data into Word.

NOTE: A DBF file is a dBASE/FoxPro file recognized by the dBASE converter supplied with standalone Word 7.0, Word 6.0 for Windows NT, Word 6.x for the Macintosh, and via ODBC in Word versions 6.x and 7.0 for Windows.

Converting ClarisWorks Database Data to Word

NOTE: ClarisWorks for the Macintosh versions include 1.0, 2.1, 3.0 through 3.0 v4, and 4.0. Earlier versions of ClarisWorks may not support all of the import and export options referenced above.
