SUMMARY

This article describes how to establish a modem-to-modem connection with NetMeeting 2.0.

MORE INFORMATION

To establish a modem-to-modem connection with NetMeeting, you must configure NetMeeting to place and answer calls with a modem.

Placing Calls

To use NetMeeting with a modem to place a call, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. Click the Protocols tab.

  3. Click to select the Modem check box, and then click OK.

Answering Calls

To use NetMeeting with a modem to answer incoming calls, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. Click the Protocols tab.

  3. Click to select the Modem check box, and then click Properties.

  4. Click to select the "Use modem to answer incoming calls" check box.

  5. Click OK twice.

  6. Quit and then restart NetMeeting for the changes to take effect.

NOTE: You may need to turn off other programs (such as Dial-Up Networking Server or fax software) that are configured to answer incoming calls if they interfere with NetMeeting's ability to answer incoming calls.

Notes

  • When you use NetMeeting to dial, the computer answering the incoming call must be configured to answer with NetMeeting. When you use Dial-Up Networking to dial, the computer answering must be configured to answer with Dial-Up Networking Server.
  • When you are making a modem-to-modem connection between two computers with NetMeeting, the Telephony Application Programming Interface (TAPI) is used. TAPI does not have audio capabilities. To have audio capabilities, you must use the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) with Dial-Up Networking to establish the connection, and then start NetMeeting.
