Cannot See Some Web Sites in Internet Explorer 3.02Last reviewed: September 29, 1997Article ID: Q170468 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSAfter you install Internet Explorer 3.02, you may no longer be able to view Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) documents that contain Java programs that load images or sounds locally.
CAUSEThis behavior occurs because of a security fix that restricts local file Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) in version 1516 of the Microsoft Virtual Machine (VM) for Java. This restriction prevents a nontrusted Java program from opening a file on the local computer.
RESOLUTIONInstall the latest Microsoft Java Virtual Machine for Internet Explorer update (version 1517 or later). To obtain the Java VM update, visit the following Microsoft Web site, and click Downloads:
http://www.microsoft.com/java/NOTE: Because the Microsoft Web site is constantly updated, the site address may change without notice. If this occurs, link to the Microsoft home page at the following address:
http://www.microsoft.com/ MORE INFORMATIONUnder most circumstances, this is appropriate behavior for most Internet Explorer users. However, when you are developing a Java program, this behavior prevents testing the program on the local computer.
