The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Project for Windows, versions 3.0, 3.0a, 4.0
  • Microsoft Project for the Macintosh, versions 3.0, 4.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Project , when you edit or create a new task or resource report, if you select the Notes check box to print your project notes and do not select any of the other options in the Report Definition or Define New Report dialog boxes, only the text of the note will be printed; the "Notes" header and underline will not be printed. The header and underline are only printed in order to distinguish the note from the rest of the information that is being printed about the task or resource.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Project offers several project reports that you can edit and print. To use these reports, choose Print Report from the File menu and select the option for the report you want to print. When you edit an existing report or create a new report, a dialog box will prompt you for necessary information and allow you to select options about the format of your report.

When using a Task or a Resource Report and when you select the Notes option in addition to one of the other options (for example, under Assignments, you can select Schedule, Cost, or Work, Objects; you can also select Predecessors or Successors) the notes in your printed report will have a header and an underline that clearly separate the note from the rest of the information. If none of these other options are selected, the note will be printed as separate text underneath the appropriate task without the Notes header and underline; when the note is printed without the header and underline it may be difficult to distinguish it from the task information. If this is the only information you want to include in your task or resource report, follow the steps below to manually format your note to have a header and an underline:

  1. From the View menu, choose Task Entry or Task Form.

  2. From the Format menu, choose Notes.

  3. In the Notes box, type the following (to move to the next line, press SHIFT+ENTER):

          Notes
          ------------------------
          This is a test

The first line contains the header, the second line contains the underline and the third and additional lines contain your note. To create the underline, you can either use hyphens or underlines.

NOTE: This feature of Microsoft Project behaves differently in version 1.0 for Windows and version 1.1 for the Macintosh.
