SUMMARY

If your computer is infected with the NOINT virus and you try to install MS-DOS 6.x or an Microsoft Office 4.2 program, your 3.5-inch installation floppy disks are damaged if the write-protected notch is in the closed (not write-protected) position. The disks are left with 17 files on each disk and are unusable. When you try to install an Office 4.2 product, you receive the following error message:

   SETUP.EXE could not be found

MORE INFORMATION

The 3.5-inch MS-DOS and Microsoft Office disks have write-protected tabs that enable you to write to the disks. The 5.25-inch disks are permanently write protected.

If you were using MS-DOS disks, each infected disk may contain a file named "S<MSDOS 5.0."

The following table shows the correct number of files for Disk 1 of each product for the 3.5-inch disk sets.

Product Correct Number of Files

MS-DOS 6.0 63
MS-DOS 6.2 61
MS-DOS 6.21 60
Microsoft Office 60

The NOINT virus is a boot-sector virus that can result in damaged file linkage, changes to system run-time operation, and changes to the boot sector.
