Grpcopy.exeRPCPY.EXE is a graphical program that runs only under Windows NT. Its purpose is to allowsenable users to copy the usernames in an existing group to another group, in the same or another domain or on a computer running Windows NTa Winnt machine. Users of this program must have at least account operator privileges into the domains within which they want to work with.
There are four menus on the menu bar of the main GrpcpyRPCPY window: Group, Edit, View, and Help. The Group menu contains options that allow you to choose the domains and groups with which to workthat you’ll be working with. The Edit menu allows you to use the Clipboard to transfer information between groups. The View menu allows you to display or hidetoggles the toolbar and status bar on and off. The Help menu containsoffers only the Help/About command; option--there is no Help file. The application does not havefeature any reporting capabilities.
The options on the toolbar, from left to right, are: Set Source Group,; Set Destination Group,; Create New Group,; Copy Existing Group,; Copy from Clipboard,; and About.
The upper left list in the upper-left part of the screencontrol contains the names of the groups available in the domain that you have chosen as the source domain. The upper right list in the upper-right control contains the group names from the destination domain. The list at the bottom displays an event log that grows as you copy groups from one location to anotheraround; this log includes a record of any errors that mightmay have occurred during the preceding operations. Some of the errors you could potentially receive are: duplicate user in destination group; and network-related errors.
Throughout this program, wherever the term “domain” is used, the context also applies to the name of a specific computer running Windows NT Workstation or Windows NT Server. This is because each computer running Windows NT effectively has its own built-in one-computer domain.

When you choose the Set Source Domain option from the Edit menu or from the toolbar, or press the associated toolbar button, the Set Source Domain dialog box appears. Specify the name of the domain from whichthat you want to copy groups from, then clickchoose OK. If you wantlike to set the sSource dDomain asto a computer running Windows NTWinnt machine, just precede the computermachine name with twoa double backslashesd (for example, \\my-computermachine).
When you choose the Set Destination Domain option from the Edit menu or from the toolbar, or press its toolbar button, the Set Destination Domain dialog box appears. Specify the name of the domain to whichthat you want to copy groups to. The destinationis domain canmay be the same as the source domain if you plan to copy between groups on the same domain. If you wantlike to set the dDestination dDomain as a tocomputer running Windows NT a Winnt machine, just precede the computer machine name with twoa double backslashesd (for example, \\mycomputer-machine).
If you wishneed to copy a group in the source domain to a new group in the destination domain, first click on the group from whichthat you want to copy from in the upper left list in the upper-left portion of the main GrpcpyRPCPY window. CNext, choose the Create New Group option from the Edit menu. The Create New Group dialog box appears.
TypeFill in athe name and a description for the new group. T; the name and description you typese determine how the new group will appear in group lists throughout all Windows NT administration utilities. Click the appropriate option to determine whether the new group will Indicate with the radio buttons whether you want the new group to be a global group or a local group; then clickpress OK to create the group. The dialog box closes, andwill disappear; then the group copy process begins. E: each name in the source group iswill be copied to the destination group. The bottom list in the main Grpcpy GRPCPY window will logs each name as it is added to the new group, along with any errors that are encountered.
If you need to copy a group in the source domain to an existing group in the destination domain, first click on the group from whichthat you want to copy from in the upper left list in the upper-left portion of the main Grpcpy GRPCPY window. Then, click on the group to whichthat you want to copy to in the upper right list in the upper-right. Next, choose the Copy to Existing Group option from the Edit menu. The Copy to Existing Group dialog box appears.
The dialog box displays some information about the source and destination groups that you have chosen. If the information is correcteverything looks right, clickpress OK to begin. The dialog box closes disappears. One by one, the names in the source group arewill be appended to the destination group. As each name is copied, a new line will appears in the log list in the main Grpcpy GRPCPY window. IOr, if a name in the source group already exists in the destination group, that name iswill be noted with an error flag in the log file.
You can add names to a group directly from the Clipboard. You mightwould typically want to do this if, for example, you happen to have a list of e-mail names in a text file, perhaps generated by ansome other utility. The names must be in a format similar to the following:

If your list of names is stored in a text file, openload the file into the Notepad, and select the entirewhole text, andthen copy it to the Clipboard. Next, switch back to GrpcpyRPCPY and choose the name of the group to which you want to add the names, from the destination domain (upper right) group list in the upper-right portion of the screen.
Choose the Copy from Clipboard option from the Edit menu. A dialog box will appear, displaying the contents of the Clipboard in a read-only text boxcontrol, and presentings well as the information about the destination group. (Unfortunately, a screen shot of this dialog is unavailable because the Clipboard is locked while it is being displayed.) ClickPress OK to pastebring the names from the Clipboard into the chosen group.
Choose the Open fromunder the Group menu. The Open , the file dialog box will appears, in which you can choose to allow you to pick an old log file to open. When the log file opens,This will load the information in the file is displayed ininto the logging window for viewing.
Choose the Save (or Save As) fromunder the Group mMenu to, it will save the information in the logging window to the currentworking log file. You can then open tThis file as a spreadsheet then can be loaded in Microsoft Excel to view it or Spreadsheet for viewingotherwise manipulate the data it contains or other functions.
