Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is an open, industry standard that is designed to reduce the complexity of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network administration. DHCP specifies methods for simplified and dynamic configuration of computers on TCP/IP networks, and reduces the administrative burden of adding, moving, and configuring computers on TCP/IP networks.
DHCP is specified by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Requests for Comments (RFCs) 1533, 1534, 1541, and 1542.
