The number of users in a domain is a function of the size of the directory database. Figure 2.11 can help you determine the number of domains you need. The single-domain model and the single master-domain model can accommodate at least 26,000 user accounts if both user accounts and computer accounts are stored in the database.
Built-in local groups for a domain include Administrators, Domain Admins, Users, Domain Users, Guests, Domain Guests, Account Operators, Backup Operators, Print Operators, Server Operators, and Replicator.
Factors | ||
Calculating SAM database size | Number of users, multiply by 1KB | A |
Number of machines , multiply by 0.5KB (workstations, servers, printers, etc.) | B
Number of custom groups, multiply by 4 KB | C
Built-in local groups | D
Total SAM size: A + B + C + D = | E
Convert SAM size to MB, multiply E by .001024 | F
Minimum # of domains = F / 40* (round up to the next whole number |
* Maximum recommended SAM Database size is 40 MB.
