When a non-browser fails, it stops announcing itself. The configured announcement period is between 1 and 12 minutes. If the non-browser has not announced itself after three announcement periods, the master browser removes the computer from the browse list. Therefore, it can take up to 51 minutes before all browsers know of a non-browser's failure. This figure includes up to 36 minutes for the master browser to detect the failure, and 15 minutes for all of the backup browsers to retrieve the updated list from the master browser.
