Zone Wizard Did Not Correctly Autocreate SOA, NS, or a Record

The DNS zone wizard retrieves information from your user logon information and the TCP/IP configuration on the DNS server in order to create a zone. For example, the DNS zone wizard uses your logon name in the Responsible Party Mailbox Name field of the SOA Record dialog box.

If you are creating a zone that has the same name as your domain and you do not enter the domain name on the DNS page in the Microsoft TCP/IP Properties dialog box, the DNS zone wizard cannot create the A record. To add the domain name, use the Network applet in Control Panel to display and configure TCP/IP properties. Type the domain name on the DNS page of the Microsoft TCP/IP properties dialog box and then stop and restart the Microsoft DNS server by using the Services applet in Control Panel.

Note

If you are creating a zone whose name is not the same as your domain name, you must manually add the SOA, A, and NS records in order to create the records with the new domain name and not the domain name configured on the local DNS server.
