Overview of Windows NT NetBEUI
The Windows NT-based implementation of NetBEUI, referred to as NBF throughout the remainder of this chapter, does the following:
- Uses the Windows NT-based Transport Driver Interface (TDI) which provides an emulator for interpretation of NetBIOS network commands.
- Uses the Windows NT-based Network Device Interface Specification (NDIS) version 3.0 with improved transport support and a full 32-bit asynchronous interface.
Note
Developers who require detailed information about the NDIS 4.0 specification should see the Windows NT Device Driver Kit (DDK).
- Removes the NetBIOS session number limit.
- Uses memory dynamically to provide automatic memory tuning.
- Supports dial-up client communications with Remote Access Service (RAS) services.
- Provides connection-oriented and connectionless data transfer services.
