Planning for Small Networks
In a small LAN that does not include routers and subnetting, a single DHCP server could be used to service all DHCP clients as illustrated in the following figure.

Before installing the DHCP server you will need to identify:
- Which computers can immediately be configured as DHCP clients for dynamic TCP/IP configuration and which computers should be manually configured with static TCP/IP configuration parameters including static IP addresses.
- The DHCP option types and their values to be predefined for the DHCP clients.
