Create a New Database

As the VSS administrator, use the MkSS.exe program to create a new empty database.

To create a new empty database:

1. Create a folder for the new database, for example, you could name it "data."
   
   
2. Open a command prompt.
   
   
3. From the command prompt, go to the \Win32 folder of your VSS Server installation.
   
   
4. Run MkSS for the database and its new folder.

   For example, MkSS d:\vss\data

5. Run Ddnconv for the database and its new folder.

   For example, Ddnconv d:\vss\data

Note   If you upgrade to the new VSS format for Fast Get, you will also need to run Ddupd after you complete steps 1–5.
