VSS has several features designed to support Webmasters and Web authors who are tasked with organizing and maintaining a World Wide Web site. Typically, Web sites involve a multitude of HTML and graphics files organized into various folders. Because these files change frequently, VSS is an ideal way to keep track of file versions, archive your files, and track changes to solve broken links and other problems.
The basic idea is that you collect a set of HTML, graphics, and supporting files that embody a Web site and check them into a VSS project. Then, your VSS administrator designates that project as a Web site project. When this is done, a special icon () is used in VSS Explorer to show that the project is a Web site project.

VSS also supports a new form of keyword expansion that makes adding a "Last modified on" date much simpler for HTML files.
