A roadmap for developing, testing, and distributing your modem INF file is:
1. Determine the modem ID string(s) you are going to use in your INF file; see Step 1 -- Determining Your Modem ID Strings.
2. Use the Infedit tool to create the INF file. You can either edit and adapt an existing modem INF file or build one from scratch. See Step 2 -- Creating The Modem INF File.
3. Add Fax capability to the INF file (this is an optional step). See OPTIONAL Step 3 -- Adding FAX Support.
4. Add Voice View capability to the INF file (this is an optional step). See OPTIONAL Step 4 -- Adding Voiceview Support.
5. Add Voice capability to the INF file (this is an optional step). See OPTIONAL Step 5 -- Adding Voice Support.
6. Test the INF file by using it to install your modem on Windows 95 platforms and test the modem installation using the Modem Compatibility Test (MCT). See Step 6 -- Testing Your Modem Installation With the MCT.
7. Send the INF file, your modem(s), and any driver files the modems may require to the Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) for certification. See Step 7 -- Getting Modem Certification from WHQL.
8. Distribute your INF file (and any required driver files) to customers who are installing your modem(s) on their Windows 95 computers; see Step 8 -- Distributing Your INF File.
The rest of this document is organized around this sequence of steps. Each of the steps is described, along with tips and traps.
