Geometry From the ATA IDENTIFY Command

If the FDPT has not been enhanced by BIOS (as described in the previous section) or the IDE controller in question is not the primary controller and it is determined that the BIOS is doing translation, Windows 95 attempts to retrieve the actual disk geometry via information returned in the ATA IDENTIFY command. The actual geometry is extracted from the appropriate fields in the IDENTIFY data. Windows 95 then verifies that the actual and apparent geometry values that have been retrieved do indeed facilitate accessing the disk drive correctly.
