New in This Installment
The BackOffice Developer's Guide includes the following new features for Installment 3:
- Hello World XML. A mini-sample application that in a simplified way demonstrates the technologies that work together to create a Web interface and a localized data presentation on the fly. The Performance Tracking application presented in Scenario 3 uses these technologies more fully.
- Scenario 3: Performance Tracking Application. The Performance Tracking (PT) application uses XML to present dynamically localized user interfaces. As always, the documentation walks you through the process of planning, designing, implementing, and deploying the application. Also included are the lessons learned by the developers, and a complete Code Listings and Object Reference section for the application.
- HTML Data Refinery. This tool, written in Visual Basic® by the BDG developers, converts HTML pages to well-formed XML, greatly facilitating the development process in Scenario 3.
- Performance Testing. Scenario 3 marks the beginning of a new focus for the BDG: testing the performance of the Windows® DNA applications in its scenarios and using performance results to improve coding techniques. Scenario 3 establishes some baseline measures; Scenario 4 will implement a more complete test regimen.
