BackOffice Server Technologies

The Microsoft® BackOffice® Server products provide you with a range of technologies you can use to program your business applications. Every application covered in the BackOffice Developer's Guide (BDG) takes advantage of multiple technologies within two or more BackOffice Server products.

The BDG provides several tables to help you select the BackOffice products you need to develop your applications. Because BackOffice Server is an important part of the Windows® Distributed interNet Applications Architecture (Windows DNA) methodology, it is unlikely that you will develop applications with BackOffice alone. You will also need to select development tools, such as those in the Microsoft Visual Studio® version 6.0 suite. To write a client for your application, you might choose Internet Explorer, or an Office product such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.
