Downloading and Installing the CML Sample Application

This section describes the step-by-step procedures involved in deploying the Corporate Media Library (CML) sample application to the Web server hosting it.

Note  There are two possible sources for the CML sample application files. If you have a CD that contains the BackOffice® Developer's Guide, you can copy them from the CD onto your hard disk. Otherwise, you can download them from the Microsoft® Platform SDK site on the World Wide Web. Step 5 in the following procedure list includes instructions for downloading the CML application from the Web.

The subsequent sections assume that the host server computer is configured according to the recommended hardware and software requirements enumerated in preceding sections, and that you have installed Microsoft BackOffice Server 4.0 and SQL Server™ 7.0. (However, you can find some information on installing BackOffice Server 4.0 and SQL Server 7.0 in this section as well.)

You must have Microsoft Internet Information Server and Windows NT® Server running on your computer to run the CML application. The following procedure shows the basic installation steps with links to detailed instructions.

To install the sample application on the host computer

  1. Install BackOffice Server.
  2. Start operating system services.
  3. Create group accounts in Windows NT Server.
  4. Install SQL Server 7.0.
  5. Install the CML sample files.
  6. Set up an application root.
  7. Set up security in BackOffice Server.
  8. Install the CML MTS package.
  9. Assign MTS roles.
  10. Assign custom error messages.
  11. Set up Exchange mailboxes.
  12. Create the FmLib database.
  13. Schedule SQL Server tasks.
  14. Create the ODBC DSN.
  15. Create the FmLib project.
  16. Specify application settings.

Installing the CML application on a client computer is much easier:

To install the sample application on the client

  1. On the client computer, start Internet Explorer and navigate to the CML Web site, for example \\ServerName\FmLib.
  2. On the application's home page, click either Search for Library Materials or View Current Requests.
  3. When prompted by the system to reboot, do so. See the following note.
  4. Start Internet Explorer and navigate once more to the CML Web site.

Note  Because the client-side component was compiled with Visual Basic 6.0, you must download the Visual Basic 6.0 support files if you don't already have them. This part of the installation requires a reboot. Because the components cannot be registered until the Visual Basic 6.0 run-time DLLs are available, Setup doesn't install completely until the second try. For more information see Coding the CML User Interface.
