Server and Developer Hardware Requirements

Server and developer computers should meet the following requirements:

• The computer must be on the Windows NT® Hardware Compatibility List.

  A computer going through Microsoft BackOffice testing must first pass the current Microsoft Windows NT Hardware Compatibility tests. For more information see the Microsoft Web site.

• Computers available in complete server configurations from the manufacturer must also be certified in those configurations.

  If a computer is available in a "bare-bones" configuration, it will be tested with industry standard add-in options.

  If a computer is available completely configured as a server, it will be tested in that hardware configuration.

  The computer must include any and all configuration utilities required.

• The computer must have a minimum of 256 MB of RAM per processor.

  The computer must have at least 256 KB of secondary cache per CPU.

• The computer must support a 32-bit bus architecture.
• The hard disk controller must support PCI Busmastering.

  The computer must not have an embedded single-FIFO dual-channel IDE controller.

  SCSI-based systems must be SCSI2-compliant.

• The computer must have a CD-ROM drive (4x minimum speed).
• The computer must have a PCI/EISA 10/100 network interface card.
• The video must support at least 640x480x256 colors.
