CML Features
The Corporate Media Library (CML) application offers the following features to users interested in the materials of the Fitch & Mather (F & M) Corporation library:
- Determine what materials the library contains. The CML application shows users only what is in the FmLib database, not what's physically on the library shelves.
- Submit requests to check out materials.
- Cancel their checkout requests for library items.
- Be notified when requested materials become available. This online notification informs the user when the library item is theirs to use for the specified checkout period. It doesn't state where the item is, physically.
- Be notified when library materials are overdue for return.
- View a list of items they currently have checked out.
The CML offers the following functionality to F & M system administrators:
- Add and delete titles in the library materials database.
- Check materials into and out of the library.
- Recall checked-out library items before their original scheduled due date.
- Renew checkouts of library items.
The user interface is enhanced by dynamic HTML (DHTML), which provides the following advantages:
- A cascading style sheet, ../../_Themes/fm/theme.css, enforces consistency in appearance among the various CML screens.
- Users can receive sorted views of information with a minimum of requests to the logic on the other two tiers.
