The two central questions about administration of the Corporate Media Library (CML) application are:
This section answers both, starting with questions about ways to restrict access to administrative functions.
For the purposes of the CML application, "administrator" means "librarian." The administrator's primary duties include adding titles to the database of library materials and checking items in and out. The administrator is also responsible for duties not performed with the CML, such as using the SQL Server™ Agent to schedule a task to query for overdue library materials, and using the User Manager of Microsoft® Windows NT® to add and delete names of other people who can administer the system (see Granting Windows NT Permissions). Although this section explains some of these tasks, most of them are done while setting up the CML application, and you can find their required procedures in the Deployment section.
Administrators use various CML screens to perform database-related tasks. Before they can do any of these tasks, they must be identified to the application. This identification is meant to provide security to protect the integrity of records in the FmLib database. See Restricting Administration Access.
In addition to these secure administration functions, some functionality of the CML application can be controlled by library users. For more information, see User Application Settings.
