Fitch & Mather (F & M) built the company's network using Microsoft BackOffice Server 4.0. Windows NT® Server 4.0 runs all the server computers, and has been upgraded to include the Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 and Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack.
From the option pack, they use Internet Information Server 4.0 on their internal and external Web servers, as well as Microsoft Transaction Server 2.0 and Index Server. From the BackOffice suite, they have implemented Exchange Server 5.5. At this time, they have not developed applications for systems management, nor do they use mainframes or minicomputers. Thus, they have not installed either Systems Management Server 1.2 or SNA Server 4.0. However, SQL Server 7.0™ has been installed on the company's server as a transactional database.
Windows® Distributed interNet Applications Architecture (Windows DNA) development represents a logical, not physical architecture, so the Corporate Media Library's three tiers actually span two machines: the server on which BackOffice products provide data and business services, and the client running Internet Explorer 4.0.
The operating systems installed on computers used by employees at F & M include Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, Windows 95, and Windows 98. The browser on each computer is Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0.
