This scenario of the BackOffice® Developer's Guide presents the creation of a literary critique tool called CML/LitCrit. This new application consists of two existing applications that are enhanced to work together, namely:
The following sections describe the steps the F & M development team followed to create and deploy the application, and the lessons they learned along the way. In addition, the BDG includes the source code that their efforts generated.
Introduction. The topics in this section explain how Scenario 2 pursues BDG objectives, list the tools and technologies used in CML/LitCrit, and introduce how the application uses Microsoft® BackOffice Server version 4.5.
Planning and Research. The topics in this section state the business problem and analyze the requirements for combining two independent applications.
Design Decisions. The topics in this section take the application requirements and consider how they might be implemented. This section works as a functional specification for the application.
Implementation. The topics in this section cover every aspect of application development, including the new code written for Scenario 2 and the necessary modifications to Scenario 1 code.
Deployment. The topics in this section cover issues from setting up the development environment to properly installing and configuring the application's components.
Lessons Learned. The topics in this section describe some of the challenges the developers encountered as they implemented the application, and how such issues were resolved.
Code Listings and Object Reference. This section contains complete source files for the CML/LitCrit application, including the Active Server Pages (ASP) and Microsoft Visual Basic® version 6.0 source files, SQL scripts, and Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange scripts.
