CML/LitCrit and the Offline Information Store
Another benefit of using the Exchange information store for the LitCrit Outlook and the critique-enhanced CML Web applications is the built-in capability to take copies of selected folders offline, work with them there, and later synchronize the contents of the folders on the server with their offline copies. Synchronization of offline folders can occur manually or automatically: when you exit from a folder, at scheduled intervals while online, and when you reconnect to the server. You can continue to work in Outlook while your offline folders are being synchronized.
Use offline folders when you want to:
- Approve and reject critiques offline. Routing on the LitCrit public folder sends critiques, as attachments on messages, to the Inbox of a designated approver. Because the Inbox is automatically available offline, when you set up offline folders you can approve critiques while disconnected from the Exchange server. You can open critique messages, click the critique attachment icon, and approve or reject critiques. If you approve and reject critiques offline, the resulting rejection messages are mailed and approved critiques are posted when you reconnect to the Fitch & Mather Exchange server.
- Read critiques offline. Copy all current critiques from the LitCrit public folder to your offline folder for your perusal while disconnected. Keep in mind that critiques submitted while you are disconnected are available as soon as you reconnect to the Exchange server.
- Write a critique offline. The one limitation of writing critiques offline is that you cannot make your critique available to the library Web application because you do not have access to the FmLib SQL Server database and cannot choose a title to critique from the title table. Write and submit your critique using the LitCrit Outlook application. After you reconnect to the Exchange server, critiques are posted to the LitCrit public folder.
